EDUCATION

The Department of Physiology and Biophysics, with over 50 faculty and graduate students numbering the same, offers 23 courses at various levels leading to several Ph.D. degrees. The goals of each Ph.D. program are to provide contemporary knowledge, excellent research training and in-depth, hands-on expertise to selected students. These goals are accomplished by a series of foundation and advanced topic courses, basic laboratory rotations, research papers, grant writing, computer knowledge and finally thesis research. Additionally, the Department offers a Master's Program of study and several undergraduate courses, including a Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP).

Our faculty provides exceptionally fine training for a few highly motivated and qualified predoctoral and postdoctoral candidates who have a genuine interest in pursuing academic or industry research careers in basic biomedical or clinical research. The rationale for our programs is that the individuals who are well trained in research continue to be in demand to do research, teach, and/or be involved in related activities as well as to provide society with appropriate expertise and leadership.

We help train the next generation of leaders.
