FACILITIES
The majority of the faculty offices, laboratories, teaching facilities, and administrative offices are located on the fifth and sixth floors of the East Wing of the School of Medicine. The two floors combine 25,000 square feet of space interconnected by a glass balcony that bridges the two floors and greatly facilitates exchange between them. The department was designed using an open configuration model with a minimal number of doors or partitions. It incorporates 30 modular laboratories, offices and common facilities with highly efficient space utilization and a positive and pleasant working environment. Additional research buildings, housing, offices, and laboratories for the faculty of Physiology and Biophysics are located at the Lerner Research Institute at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, the Rammelkamp Research Building at MetroHealth Medical Center, and the Louis Stokes VA Medical Center. The facilities on the four campuses include state-of-the-art instrumentation for studies in Biophysics, Cell Biology, Electrophysiology, Molecular Biology, Structural Biology, and Transport Metabolism. Instrumentation includes several high-field NMR spectrometers, EPR, digital subtraction fluorescence imaging, and atomic force microscopy. Investigators in the Department also have access to many other facilities and research centers located on the Case Medical School campus including an animal resource center, a transgenic and targeting core facility, a small animal imaging center, numerous light microscopic imaging cores, a gene expression array core facility, core facilities for proteomics, and the Cleveland Center for Structural Biology.
