Welcome to the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at Case Western Reserve University
School of Medicine!

Science is more than the pursuit of knowledge—it is a journey of discovery, collaboration, and
innovation. In our department, we explore how molecules orchestrate function, how cells adapt,
and how systems integrate to sustain life and respond to disease. Physiology and Biophysics are
not just foundational fields; they are engines of innovation that drive breakthroughs in medicine,
biotechnology, and human health. Our research spans fundamental mechanisms to translational
advances, integrating disease modeling, structural biology, integrative physiology, and
therapeutic development. Whether unraveling the complexities of neurodegeneration,
cardiovascular function, or renal physiology, we are pioneering new strategies that will shape the
future of healthcare. But discovery alone is not enough. The most impactful science happens in
an environment that fosters bold thinking, embraces collaboration, and empowers the next
generation of scientists. We are committed to building a dynamic community where students,
postdoctoral fellows, and faculty work side by side to push boundaries, challenge ideas, and
transform knowledge into impact. Education is at the heart of our mission. We train and inspire
future leaders—not only to advance science but to improve lives. Progress happens when diverse
perspectives come together, when ideas are challenged, and when discovery is driven by
purpose. I invite you to explore our department, engage with our faculty and students, and
become part of the groundbreaking discoveries happening here. Whether you are a student,
researcher, or collaborator, you are welcome in a community that is not just shaping the future of
physiology and biophysics—but redefining it.
