This year’s Cleveland National Air Show at Burke Lakefront Airport was headlined by the USAF Thunderbirds Jet Demonstration Team. These exceptional pilots routinely provide inspiring displays of elite aviation for the American public. The Thunderbirds graciously provided several members of the Department of Physiology and Biophysics with VIP tickets to the Cleveland National Air Show.
As the main event of the air show, the Thunderbirds demonstrated many spectacular feats of aviation, including the perilously compact diamond formation and astounding knife edge passes. They concluded their performance with the awe-inspiring delta formation, in which all six aircraft came within arm’s reach of one another whilst moving at a blistering pace. Both the incredible skill of the aviators and the mechanical prowess of their signature aircraft, the F-16C Fighting Falcon, were displayed magnificently.
Students and faculty of the Department of Physiology and Biophysics were also afforded the rare privilege of meeting the Thunderbirds in person, as the legendary pilots made a surprise visit to the Department of Physiology and Biophysics on the eve of their performance at the Cleveland National Air Show. The presence of the famed aviators made for an unforgettable night for many members of the department.

The Thunderbirds will continue their 2023 show season on September 9th at the Volaria Airshow in Mirabel, Quebec, Canada.
